以《百元之恋》获得日本学院奖最佳编剧等诸多奖项的足立绅，将自己的半自传体小说《窝囊废日记》搬上了银幕。本片是关西小杰尼斯团体“Boys be”成员池川侑希弥初登银幕之作，以昭和末期某个地方小镇的7个6年级男生为主角，描绘了他们的一段充满欢笑、泪水、纠葛、挑战的少年时代。有别于那些带着光晕、略显苍白的同类作品，足立绅以一种近乎坦率的姿态与青春“直球对决”，直接、生猛，充满力量。足立绅还在片中使用了传奇导演相米慎二的招牌长镜头，向这位曾经的恩师致敬，也捕捉到了少年们最生动鲜活的完美状态。

泰国北部隔着湄公河与老挝相邻的汶干府，一个风暴之夜，不明生物袭击了岛民，其咬痕似犬科动物，而毒性却堪比眼镜王蛇，被其袭击12小时内毒发，当地医院仅有的抗生素不起效果，一时间伤亡惨重，岛上人心惶惶。当地警局派出所有的警力力图捕捉这个不明生物。就在他们一点一点接近怪兽时，身高近7米的巨型怪兽出现了，所到之处一片狼藉。大陆上的救援，由于雨季暴雨，无法及时赶到。人们不得不团结起来， 利用有限的资源击退怪兽。

大白鲨袭击了一艘捕鱼船，在船体上撞出了一个洞。由于距离海岸线几英里远，船上的人们被迫为生存而战，否则他们就会被淹死或者被生吞活剥。
